*Pretends to be shocked*
The first 'Game of Thrones' spin-off series has surpassed even the most pessimistic of fans, cementing its place in a pretty historic way.
'House of the Dragon' is getting a second season, it's officially been confirmed.
Following the season premiere last Sunday night/Monday morning (depending where you're reading this from), the episode became the biggest HBO Max launch ever both in the US and Europe. So, a second season shouldn't really come as a surprise, should it?
We're sure that the prequel series is hoping to take us all of the way up to when Daenerys Targaryen is born, and with a whole 172 years to fill, they're going to need at least another season to do so.
Now, we should point out that with such a long time period to cover, there's going to be some cast changes as the series progresses. Even in this first season, both of the actors who play Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower (Milly Alcock and Emily Carey) will be replaced later this season by their older counterparts Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke.
So, don't get too attached to any of the characters - well, this is a 'Game of Thrones' story after all, and anything could happen.
Zai Bennett, MD of Content at Sky said this about the second season renewal so early in the game: "'House of the Dragon' is already proving to be a ratings hit, and we predict it will go from strength to strength due to the captivating storytelling and incredible production values. We look forward to sharing a second series with our customers on Sky and NOW."
