The Shelbys returned to our TV screens last night and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive

The long-awaited fifth season of 'Peaky Blinders' returned to our TV screens last night, and was undoubtedly one of the most highly-anticipated TV events this year. (You can read our review of the episode here.)

'Tommy' was even trending on Twitter in Ireland at one point, which goes to show just how popular the Cillian Murphy-starring show really is.

Warning: spoilers below!

The reaction to episode one was generally positive, while many people were just delighted to know that Cyril, Alfie Solomon's dog, was alive. (Unfortunately the same cannot be said for his owner, who remains very much dead.)

Others generally felt that it was a strong opener, with Tommy taking up his position as Labour MP for Birmingham South and having emotional flashbacks about Grace. The Peaky Blinders are adjusting to life two years after wiping out the Changretta mob; Aunt Polly is living it up in Monte Carlo, Michael is making bad decisions for the family's financial empire in Chicago, and Arthur is being Arthur and doing way too much cocaine.

With episode two airing tonight at 9.30pm, there's not too long to wait to see how things unfold.
