Undoubtedly, Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest losses of 2016.

Arguably the greatest athlete of our time, Ali's impact on sports as a whole and the global consciousness is still felt to this day. He's inspired entire generations of people - both in and out of sports - and influenced countless others.

Although his life and times have been the subject of a number of documentaries and films, including the excellent feature documentary When We Were Kings and Michael Mann's biopic with Will Smith, there's still much of his life that has remain hidden and unexplored.

HBO announced earlier today that it's beginning work on a multi-part documentary on Ali's life and career, with never-before-seen footage and photographs from the Ali family. The series, which will be directed by Training Day director Antoine Fuqua and produced by NBA star LeBron James, will chart Ali's achievements - in and out of the ring.

No release date has been scheduled, but it's expected to air some time in late 2017.
