The evenings are getting darker, temperatures are dropping, and there's basically just a bang of October everywhere really, isn't there? So why fight it any longer, close the curtains, find those fleecy socks you love, (if not buy some), and have a look at what's going on with Netflix these days. October has already brought a whole rake of new TV shows and movies to the streaming service, with more to come.

Here's some of the best new additions below;

Comedy

Chelsea Handler: Uganda Be Kidding Me

The former E! late night chat show host's first exclusive stand-up comedy special for Netflix, sees her regaling the audience with absurd tales of her global travels and the ridiculous characters in her life. Of course she does so in her own signature style tackling a wide range of subjects from her expectations of sexual partners, to the very real problem of dolphin rape (it's a thing).

Drifters

This British comedy proved a hit last year when it first aired on E4. It follows three twenty-something year olds at that awkward point in life when you've graduated, come back from travelling, and now don't have a breeze what to be doing. Queue some comedy gold, especially from the show's hilarious lead Jessica Knappett

Movies

Boyz N The Hood

This debut film of director John Singleton was probably one of the most popular and significant films in 1990s America. It follows three friends growing up in The Hood (well, clue is in the title there) where drive-by shootings and unemployment are rampant, with all three finding themselves pulled in different directions. Stars a young Cuba Gooding Jr in the lead, alongside Lawrence Fishburne, Angela Bassett and Ice Cube.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Just when he's needed most, Captain Jack Sparrow, that witty and wily charmer of a pirate, is trapped on a sea of sand in Davy Jones' Locker. Captain Jack's the last of the nine Pirate Lords of the Brethren Court who must come together united in one last stand to preserve the freedom-loving pirates' way of life. This is the third installment, and we are pretty sure they are going to stop making these movies eventually... right??

Girl, Interrupted

This movie is based on writer Susanna Kaysen's account of her 18-month stay at a mental hospital in the 1960s and the characters she met while there. Winona Ryder stepped into the role of Kaysen while Angelina Jolie bagged her first and only Oscar win as the enchanting yet manipulative sociopath Lisa. It's kind of like a nineties One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, you might say.

TV

American Horror Story Season 3 (Available - 28th October)

As TV shows go, it doesn't get much more terrifying than American Horror Story, and season three is only a few short weeks away. The show explores humankind's unsettling capacity for evil, playing upon the power of supernatural fears and everyday horrors. Season three follows the events of a coven of Salem descendants who reside within a boarding school in Louisiana, starring Emmy award winners Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange.

Homeland - Season Three

Season four may have just began but if you wanted to remind yourselves of all the drama of season three, it's now available to stream on Netflix. Plenty of drama in store for Carrie and Brody this season, and while some said it started to teeter over to the incredulous at times, it was worth sticking with until the end, if only for Carrie's cry face.

Doctor Who: Season seven

The new Doctor (Peter Capaldi) has already begun his reign but you can still see Matt Smith as the time travelling Doc here. The usual shenanigians really - fighting nefarious aliens and other foes in epic sci-fi drama style.

DOCUMENTARY

Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

With the new movie fast approaching, let the geek in you shine and take a look back at this history of this comic book series that led to the TV cartoon we all knew and loved and a rake of movies. Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles presented a completely original breed of super hero, and became one of the most popular and beloved franchises in the world. Turtle power!

Fight Church (15th October)

Feature documentary about the confluence of Christianity and Mixed Martial Arts, including ministries which train fighters. The film follows several pastors and popular fighters in their quest to reconcile their faith with a sport that many consider violent and barbaric.

KIDS (AND GROWN UPS!)

Bambi

This was only the sixth film released by Walt Disney Pictures and was an absolute classic of our childhood, and now... you can watch it again! Maybe with some kids, maybe not, it's up to you. The animated drama follows a young deer learning to grow up in the wild after his mother is shot by Man. Crying is pretty much obligatory during this, so tissues at the ready.
