Not quite as crazy as the film categories.
In comparison to the film categories, the television categories of this year's Golden Globes was more predictable with 'Killing Eve' and 'Bodyguard' winning in the acting categories.
Michael Douglas picked up a win for 'The Kominsky Method', whilst Sandra Oh deservedly got the gong for Best Actress (Drama) in 'Killing Eve'. Surprisingly, 'Sharp Objects' fared far less well than expected whilst 'Outlander' and Cathriona Balfe went empty-handed for a fourth straight year.
We kick things off with...
Best Television Series (Drama)
We predicted... 'Killing Eve'
Who won? 'The Americans'
This wasn't completely unexpected, to be fair. 'The Americans' was on its final season and that always puts its chances up a couple of notches. 'Killing Eve' may not have won here, but it'll be back next year - but then it has to go up against the last season of 'Game of Thrones'.
Â
Best Television Series (Comedy / Musical)
We predicted... 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'
Who won? 'The Kominsky Method'
Netflix and Amazon have always been welcome at the Golden Globes, so it really was going to be a split between these two series here. That 'The Kominsky Method' won out here over 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' probably has more to do with the age-range of HFPA's voting pool than anything else.
Â
Best Limited Series or Movie Made For Television
We predicted... 'Sharp Objects'
Who won? 'American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace'
'Sharp Objects' and HBO really did get thoroughly shut out of the Golden Globes this year, but the expectation really was for 'Sharp Objects' to win here and Amy Adams to take the gong for Best Actress In A Limited Series as well. Darren Criss, on the other hand, was the expected winner in Best Actor In A Limited Series and did actually win there, so who knows?
Â
Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Drama)
We predicted... Sandra Oh for 'Killing Eve'
Who won? Sandra Oh for 'Killing Eve'
A completely expected win here for Sandra Oh who was pulling double-duty as host on the night, and a great speech as well. If they're smart, they'll send Jodie Comer up next year in this category and come away with another Golden Globe for the series.
Â
Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Drama)
We predicted... Richard Madden for 'Bodyguard'
Who won? Richard Madden for 'Bodyguard'
Again, very much an expected win here for Richard Madden and this'll only help his chances of landing the Bond gig in the future. Daniel Craig was in the crowd, as well, so you just know there was a chin-wag between the pair of them.
Â
Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Comedy / Musical)
We predicted... Rachel Brosnahan for 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'
Who won? Rachel Brosnahan for 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel'
Three for three on our predictions here, and not at all surprised that Rachel Brosnahan won out. Why is 'The Good Place' and Kristen Bell not getting the awards recognition they so richly deserve? Is it too good? Maybe.
Â
Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series (Comedy / Musical)
We predicted... Donald Glover for 'Atlanta' or Jim Carrey for 'Kidding'
Who won? Michael Douglas for 'The Kominsky Method'
This was definitely a tough category to call accurately, as there was no specifically stand-out performance among them. Jim Carrey felt like a safe choice, owning to the fact that Michel Gondry directed 'Kidding' - but still, Michael Douglas definitely deserved his win here.
Â
Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
We predicted... Amy Adams for 'Sharp Objects' or Patricia Arquette for 'Escape at Dannemora'
Who won? Patricia Arquette for 'Escape at Dannemora'
Amy Adams, yet again, goes home empty-handed and there's genuinely got to be some kind of fatwa out for her with award voters. Patricia Arquette was a favourite to win here and one-half of our predicted choice, so we're taking a half-point for this.
Â
Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
We predicted... Darren Criss for 'American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace'
Who won? Darren Criss for 'American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace'
Darren Criss was the lock for this and then some, so it's good to see that he won out and rightfully so. Ben Whishaw won in the Supporting Actor category for 'A Very English Scandal', so while Hugh Grant was the secondary choice here, there was probably a wide gap between him and Darren Criss.
