At this stage we have seen Superman done to death on both the big and small screen, so it's about time Supergirl had her moment in the spotlight.
This brand new CBS series sees Glee star Melissa Benoist take the lead role as Kara Zor-El, Superman's couz!
Kara's been hanging around in the background while her famous relative went on about saving the world, but now at twenty-four she is ready to step up to the plate and become the hero she was destined to be.
So far the show has only filmed its hour-long pilot but has been given a series commitment by American TV network CBS for September. There's a good team behind it too as it's made by Berlanti Productions company, in association with Warner Bros. While it's co-written by Greg Berlanti, who has worked on the likes of Dawson's Creek, Everwood and The Flash, as well as Ali Adler, who was co-creator of The New Normal.
Actress Benoist played Marley Rose on hit show Glee from 2012-2014 and she is currently starring in in the Oscar-nominated Whiplash. Prior to casting CBS chair Nina Tassler said they were looking for 'quality and charisma. She’s got to be everywoman.'
We reckon Melissa fits the bill nicely, and it's about time there were a few more female led superhero TV shows. Wonder Woman has been in the top spot for far too long!
