The much-loved comedy series 'Gavin & Stacey' will return for one final outing this Christmas.
James Corden, who created the show with co-star Ruth Jones, confirmed the news on Instagram this morning with a picture of them holding a script for the upcoming Christmas special.
They said: "Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James."
The show follows the long-distance relationship between Gavin Shipman (played by Mathew Horne) from Essex, England, and Stacey West (played by Joanna Page) from Barry, Wales, who initially meet through phone conversations at work and eventually decide to meet in person. The series then explores their relationship and the dynamics between their eccentric friends and families, including Stacey's best friend Nessa (played by Ruth Jones) and Gavin's best friend Smithy (played by James Corden). Other well-known actors in the cast include Rob Brydon, Melanie Walters, Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb.
'Gavin & Stacey' originally ran for 3 seasons from 2007 to 2009. It returned for a Christmas special in 2019 and left off on a cliffhanger with Nessa proposing to Smithy.
We can only hope this Christmas special finds them happy out in married life but who knows what divilment Corden and Jones will have in store for their beloved characters.
