To be fair, the episode was called 'The Long Night' so it's in the title.
'Game of Thrones' has always been a dark TV show in terms of its content and the fact that it's set in a medieval world where electricity hasn't been invented.
Obviously, this calls for natural lighting which is, well, natural and difficult to see in. Last night's episode, funnily enough titled 'The Long Night', was particularly bad. In a few key scenes, even if you had a decent TV and watched in full 1080p quality, it was barely comprehensible.
Not surprisingly, people watching the episode took to Twitter to vent their frustration about the lighting. Don't worry, we've kept any spoilers out of harm's way.

Extremely avant-garde to shoot a massive battle entirely in the dark
