Season six of the show is based on The Winds of Winter, which George RR Martin said wouldn't be finished before GOT goes to air. In other words - NOBODY knows what's going to happen at the end of the season. Exciting and unnerving in equal measure.
While most hardcore GOT fans are devastated that the book won't be completed in time, George RR Martin has been overwhelmed by the kindness of the Internet in this regard. After making his announcement on New Years Day via his livejournal Not a Blog, he had this to add: "The outpouring of support in response to my post on THE WINDS OF WINTER has been astonishing. Thank you all, so very much."
Over 1,000 people had taken the time to leave such comments as: "Love your work, George! Get it done when it's done. I'll be there." and "I know that a lot of people will be a little disappointed by the announcement that Winds isn't coming out as soon as we thought, but to be honest I think you're the person who's been hit the hardest by this. So I'm sorry, and I just wanted to say that we're all still right here with you!"
George RR Martin isn't the only one astonished by the soundness of a disappointed Internet. It is extremely refreshing.
