It's rumoured to be set five thousand years before the events in 'Game of Thrones'
There's still one episode of 'Game of Thrones' to go before it ends after eight seasons and eight years - but if you're bereft at the idea of no more drama from Westeros and beyond, there's good news on the horizon.
A prequel to the show which was rumoured as far back as a year ago has reportedly begun filming in Belfast. It's tentatively titled 'Bloodmoon' - not 'The Long Night', as was previously rumoured - and is set 5,000 years before the current series, which means that it will focus on the 'Children of the Forest' (pictured above) - i.e. the mysterious group of beings that inhabited Westeros before the arrival of the First Men. If you're up on your Thrones lore, you'll also be aware that the Children of the Forest were the ones who created the Night King and the White Walkers.
Naomi Watts is set to star, while Jane Goldman (who co-wrote the likes of 'Stardust', 'Kick-Ass', 'X-Men: First Class' and the 'Kingsmen' films) is writing and producing. She is allegedly working with George R.R. Martin on the storyline, which uncovers "horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers”.
The Sun quote a source as saying: "Thrones fans will be delighted to hear things have started with the prequel. Those working on the set in Belfast are referring to the series as Bloodmoon. Producers have put together a stellar cast and it will be must-watch telly for anyone who loves Game Of Thrones.”
While news of the shoot has not yet been confirmed by HBO or any official source, it's something to tentatively look forward to.
