George R.R. Martin is the brilliant mind behind the Game of Thrones series of books, and the man who will decide just how much longer we will get to be apart of this world of seven Kingdoms. The fourth season is shortly to air on our screens over here, but it looks like down the line it could be a movie that brings this epic tale to a close.
At the recent Hollywood premiere of the fourth series of the HBO show, he told the Hollywood Reporter; "It all depends on how long the main series runs,” said Martin. “Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger. It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big."
Martin also addressed the concerns that the TV show was now catching up on the books; "I’m hopeful that I cannot let them catch up with me. The season that’s about to debut covers the second half of the third book. The third book was so long that it had to be split into two. But there are two more books beyond that, A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons."
Hard to believe that the future of all these characters rests in the imagination of one man, and at this stage it's impossible to predict how it will all conclude, either way, cinema or TV screen - we're there!
