Will Smith is exec producer for the new series
'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' is getting the reboot treatment. But rather than being a comedy, the new series will be a drama.
According to reports, the show is inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral video that reimagined 'Fresh Prince' as a drama titled 'Bel-Air.'
The video was posted on Youtube back in March 2019 and has accumulated over 5 million views since then.
You can watch it below.
Cooper is attached to co-write and direct the project. He will also serve as a co-executive producer.
Will Smith will executive produce via Westbrook Studios.
Quincy Jones and original series creators Andy and Susan Borowitz are also exec producing.
'Sons of Anarchy' vet Chris Collins will be the showrunner.
'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' ran on NBC from 1990 to 1996 for six seasons and just under 150 episodes.
Will Smith shot to stardom thanks to the series. He has had a resurgence in the past year after starring in recent films like 'Aladdin' and 'Bad Boys For Life'.
This reboot series doesn't have a home yet. It's being shopped to multiple outlets, including HBO Max.
The cast of 'Fresh Prince' recently reunited on zoom.
