All good things must come to an end

It's been a long time coming, but we finally have a release date for 'Killing Eve' season four on Irish television.

'Killing Eve' arrives on RTÉ One this March, and from what we know so far - it's going to be one fiery (if slow-burning) final season.

The Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh spy comedy caper has been on our screens since 2018 via BBC and BBC America, but everything will come to a dramatic head during these final eight episodes.

'Killing Eve' season four launched in the US this past week, opening to mostly mixed reviews from critics, so here's hoping the action picks up as the season concludes.

Based on the 'Villanelle' books by Luke Jennings, season one received huge praise when it launched almost five years ago. Essentially a cat and mouse game between a hired assassin (Comer) and an MI5 agent (Oh), the series had 'Fleabag' creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge attached as head writer.

Waller-Bridge departed the show after just one season, but still remains an executive producer, and admittedly the follow-up seasons failed to reach the highs of this initial introduction into the spy world. Having said that, 'Sex Education' writer Laura Neal leads the writing team for this season.

Joining Comer and Oh for their final spy adventure once again will be Fiona Shaw as Carolyn, Kim Bodnia as Konstantin, Gemma Whelan as Geraldine and Camille Cottin as Hélène. New cast members this season include Robert Gilbert ('The Tragedy of Macbeth') as Eve's new accomplice Yusuf, and Anjana Vasan ('We Are Lady Parts') as Pam, a new assassin-in-training.

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar in November last year about her final outing as Villanelle, Comer said she was "trying not to think about" her last hurrah.

She said: "It's sad, you know? I've been with this character for a really, really long time. I would rather we ended on a good note and kept our integrity, instead of going on and on and being kicked out the door."

BBC America and AMC are rumoured to be developing potential spin-offs based on the original series.

'Killing Eve' season four kicks off on RTÉ One on Tuesday, March 1 at 10.15 pm. Watch all three seasons via the RTÉ Player.
