What with the GAA team (we know, the rugby team is London Irish) making it to the Connacht final this year, the connection between London and Ireland has probably never been stronger, so it's no wonder that one of our own had joined the cast of a new Channel 4 sitcom about the expat community in the English capital.
Chortle reports that Ardal O'Hanlon will play the father of one of the main characters in new comedy London Irish. The show focuses on the exploits of a number of hard-drinking, hard-living twenty-somethings, and the former Father Ted star couldn't be more excited about it.
"London Irish is a fresh, cheerfully outrageous, no-limits comedy", he said. There isn't a taboo that goes unexplored. I'm delighted to play Da, who's oblivious to all that. The writing is fearlessly funny and the cast ridiculously charismatic." And to think, it seems like only yesterday he was a young and impressionable cleric. We still can't get used to the idea of Dougal being a daddy...
The show itself comes courtesy of Derry girl Lisa McGee, who has previous credits at the BBC (for Being Human), and Channel 4 (for Totally Frank), and will mainly focus on Northern Irish expats. So as long as it stays well clear of My Hero territory, we're sure it'll be well worth a watch.
