Last night Coronation Street left fans devastated as popular characters Steve and Michelle were faced with a miscarriage. Michelle then had to deliver her baby despite knowing he would not survive. It was utterly heartbreaking.

While it made for highly emotional scenes, it did raise awareness of the trauma of losing a baby through miscarriage, and actors Kym Marsh and Simon Gregson have been rightfully praised for their performances.

It's all the more poignant for the actors, as Kym also lost a baby in a similar way eight years ago, while Simon Gregson admitted this week that his wife had suffered 11 miscarriages.
