We know them best as Doug, Shannon, Callum and Rachel, and we've ceratinly seen their characters dealing with their fair share of 'teen' issues on the telly, but now Fair City's younger generation are taking their cause off the airwaves, and into every single one of our homes and workplaces.

Wesley Doyle, Lauren Murphy, Niamh Quirke and Sean Doyle are putting the soap drama aside, and asking individuals, groups, schools and workplaces to take part in a 25 minute communication blackout: No phones, no emails, no texting, no twitter, no speaking, no Facebook and of course, no Fair City.

Now, they're not asking for a moment's silence ahead of Fair City's upcoming 25th season catastrophe: They're actually doing their bit for Childline's new campaign, which encourages us to ‘Stay Silent So Children Can be Heard’. The gang want to help the charity raise funds so it can make the leap from a traditional phone listening service into the online world.

So if you like what you hear, or as the case may be don't hear, down Carrigstown way, then you can take some simple steps to helpwith their efforts. Log on to www.ispcc.ie for your individual, group/school and workplace ‘Stay Silent’ fundraising pack or call the fundraising team on 1850 50 40 50. Alternatively, you can text the word SILENCE to 50300 to donate €2 to the campaign.

Not a peep out of you while you're doing it mind.
