The new episodes will reflect life in Ireland with Covid-19
RTÉ has announced the return of 'Fair City' to production. It will resume airing on Irish TV screens in September.
Fans of the soap will see new stories and dramas unfold as the programme reflects life in Ireland with Covid-19.
Regarding the new safety procedures and protocols in place for the production of the series, series producer Brigie deCourcy said: "It has been our priority that these systems were in place before committing to a return date so that we could protect the health and well-being of our actors, writers, directors and crew.
"We have been eager to get back to production, but the priority was the health and safety of the whole team.
"Everyone is delighted that we are now in a position to get back to telling stories and bringing fun and chaos back to Carrigstown."
'Fair City' has aired thirty series since its debut in 1989.
Its last episode aired on April 12.
Production was forced to stop filming due to the coronavirus outbreak.
It returns to screens early September with three episodes a week. DeCorcy said plans are in place to film four shows a week until there's a backlog built up.
She said: "We had a wonderful court case, we had a huge christening and a very exciting new romance.
"Everything was parked for safety reasons.
"So we have come in with a new story completely. But we’ll come back to those episodes as soon as we can."
DeCourcy also told the RTÉ Guide that the show will have a new guest star - 'Dancing With the Stars' favourite Karen Byrne.
"Oh we’re doing something that is going to be lovely," she said. "Sean, who is played by Ryan Andrews, meets the woman of his dreams while doing online dance classes.
"We’re actually bringing together Karen Byrne, who was in Dancing With The Stars, and Ryan, to do some remote dancing on the streets, which is going to be very lovely."
'Fair City' returns to RTÉ One on September 6.
