The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest was won by Austria's entry, Conchita Wurst, with the song 'Rise Like A Phoenix'. Winning a total of 290 points, the drag artist - real name Tom Neuwirth - was clearly emotional throughout the points section and gave a tearful speech upon collecting the trophy.

The Netherlands came second with 238 points and Sweden finished third with 218 points. Ireland did not qualify for the finals. This will be the first time Austria has won the Eurovision Song Contest since 1966.

Speaking after collecting her trophy, Conchita said that the night was "dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom." She went on to say felt Europe had "taken a stand" by voting her the winner.

The interlude between the performances and points saw, amongst other things, a bizarre performance involving ladders on-stage, a vaguely racist song about Eurovision facts and China and a cameo by former Eurovision winners including our own Johnny Logan and Finland's Lordi.

The night also saw BBC's Graham Norton get a surprise visit from the hosts via a camera crew and a confetti cannon that was wheeled into the audio booth. Norton's commentary was, as always, perfectly hilarious and riddled with sarcasm throughout.

It wasn't just him, however. Entertainment.ie manned the Twitter account and gave a song-by-song commentary, some of which we've displayed below.

The night saw a grand total of 5.5 MILLION tweets sent using the Eurovision hashtag with an average of over 22,000 tweets sent per minute. In all, a night of surprises but a deserved winner who's set to become a sensation.
