Oh boy!
The 'Quantum Leap' reboot is picking up traction, with 'Ghostbusters' star Ernie Hudson joining the cast of the planned reboot.
The planned reboot picks up after where the original series left off, and a team of scientists in the present day must figure out the mysteries and secrets behind the machine, as well as the man who created it.
At the ending of the original series, Scott Bakula's Dr. Sam Beckett tried to make one final leap home, only for the series to be cancelled, which forced the writers to declare that Beckett never made it back to the present day.
In the new pilot, Raymond Lee stars as a physicist called Dr. Ben Seong, who gets stuck in the late 1980s and is struck down with amnesia after using the Quantum Leap machine.
Raymond Lee starred in the dark comedy 'Kevin Can F**k Himself' opposite Annie Murphy last year, and appears to be the Scott Bakula analogue in this new version of the show.
According to Deadline, which reported the news, Hudson will play Herbert “Magic” Williams, a Vietnam veteran and head of the time travel project at Quantum Leap.
The article describes his character as someone who uses "a bit of politicking and his military know-how to keep the Pentagon at bay, and buys the team some time to rescue Ben but expects answers once he’s back."
Hudson, of course, is best-known to audiences for his role in the 'Ghostbusters' films as Winston Zeddemore, a role he reprised in last year's 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife'.
Original 'Quantum Leap' star Dean Stockwell passed away last November, but Scott Bakula is "aware of the project" per reports in January and is open to appearing in the reboot in some form.
Quantum Leap ran for 97 episodes between 1989 to 1993, picking up a number of Golden Globes and Emmy wins during its run.
Conversations around a reboot have been surfacing for years, with significant progress on a reboot only taking place within the last year, with producers of current NBC show 'La Brea' attached to the project.
As this is only a pilot for NBC, there's no word yet on when the re-imagined 'Quantum Leap' will be available for viewing for Irish audiences, but assuming the pilot is successful, the show may be picked up for a series order to debut later this year.
