History was made a few times at last night's 69th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, with 'The Handmaid’s Tale', 'Big Little Lies', 'Atlanta', and 'Veep' all taking home much-deserved statue gold.
'The Handmaid's Tale' took home six awards, including Best Drama and Best Actress in a Drama Series for star Elisabeth Moss, giving Hulu its first ever Emmy win, while HBO were very happy with their five wins for 'Big Little Lies', including Best Limited Series and Best Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for Nicole Kidman, and he Best Comedy and Best Actress in a Comedy Series wins for 'Veep'.
It was Julia Louis-Dreyfus' sixth consecutive Emmy win for her role on the show, breaking the Emmy record for a performer in a single role, with a total of eight Emmys in the bag (and if you're not watching it, you really really should be).
Viewers were also quick to notice that with wins for 'The Handmaids Tale', 'Veep' and 'Big Little Lies', it was also the first time that female-led series came out on top in all three show categories.
Elsewhere, 'Master of None‘ writer and actress Lena Waithe made history by being the first black woman to win a writing Emmy, while Donald Glover became the first black director to win an Emmy for directing a comedy series for 'Atlanta'.
