CBS are preparing for life after Thomas Gibson by adding to the show's cast for the new season.
Gibson, who played Special Agent Aaron Hotchner on the show for 12 seasons was fired from the show after an on set altercation with a writer.
According to TVLine CBS are planning on hiring two new cast members for the show, with one of them playing a character that will succeed Hotch as team leader. It's not yet known how the producers plan to writer Hotch out of the show.
Gibson meanwhile could be trading in procedural drama for a sitcom. He told The Hollywood Reporter that laughter might be the best medicine.
"People always mention that they'd love to see me in a comedy again. Maybe it's time - laughter being the best medicine."
Before Criminal Minds, Gibson starred in sitcom Dharma & Gregg for five years.
