Although It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia won't be back on our screens until 2018, it's looking like there's rumblings on how the next couple of seasons are going to pan out.
One of the main stars of the show, Glenn Howerton, recently had a new TV show with Patton Oswalt picked up for series and, in a recent interview, Howerton sort-of-but-not-specifically said that his future with IASIP may be in doubt. In an interview with Uproxx a few months ago, Howerton explained that he was "certainly staying open to the possibility of doing more, but there is a possibility that I will not."
Fast forward to today and an interview with HuffPo, and you've got Charlie Day pretty much saying that there's no show without Glenn Howerton. "We really never want to do the show without Dennis. There is a possibility that maybe we would have Dennis in part of a season, not a complete season. I think we would still do a great season. There is a possibility that we have Dennis for an entire season, which would be fantastic."
Day went on, explaining that it was a case of wait-and-see with his new show and that "talking with Glenn, I know he still has a lot of love for the show and wants to do the show.”
It's worth pointing out that pretty much everyone in the show has a full dance-card for the forseeable future. Mac, played by Rob McElhenney, is directing a movie about Minecraft (really), whilst Charlie Day has Pacific Rim: Uprising and has a pretty active film career. Kaitlin Olson has her own sitcom called The Mick, Glenn Howerton has his show with Patton Oswalt as we know, and recently, Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed that Triplets is set to begin production pretty soon, which puts Danny DeVito out of action for a couple of months.
Of course, the next season of It's Always Sunny isn't due until late 2018 so there's plenty of time between now and then, but it does show that everyone's careers have flourished so much that doing the show is going to become more and more difficult for them.
