"It would be cruel to use real big cats in a television series about cruelty to big cats."
Most have heard of the documentary series 'Tiger King' by now. It has taken the globe by storm since launching on Netflix.
Carole Baskin is one of the subjects of the series and she hasn't been quiet about her criticism of the show.
A mini series based on 'Tiger King' is now in the works and Baskin seems to approve of the actress who will play her, Kate McKinnon. McKinnon is also an exec producer on it.
In a statement to EW, Baskin implored the SNL star to use CGI cats in the show rather than real ones.
"Kate McKinnon is a wonderful actress," Baskin said in the open message. "Big Cat Rescue implores Kate McKinnon to not use real big cats and cubs in the making of her series.
"We urge McKinnon to utilize computer-generated imagery (CGI) of cats in the show rather than forcing real big cats to suffer just to entertain the audience.
"We hope McKinnon has a passion for animals and that her series will focus on the horrible lives captive big cats lead when exploited by breeders like Joe Exotic."
Carole Baskin also encouraged McKinnon to "urg[e] the public to support the Big Cat Public Safety Act that would end the cub petting abuse in America."
The upcoming miniseries is based on Wondery's podcast 'Joe Exotic: Tiger King' hosted by Robert Moor. Moor spent four years interviewing Baskin and Joe Exotic, the main subject of the Netflix series.
Baskin's statement also noted: "It would be cruel to use real big cats in a television series about cruelty to big cats."
As long as the CGI doesn't end up looking like 'Cats', that's fair enough.
