"We had some sombre talks"
The eighth season of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' will be influenced by the Black Lives Matter protests, confirms star Terry Crews.
'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' finished the broadcast of its seventh season on NBC earlier this year.
The sitcom, which has earned praise for its diversity, focusses on a group of police officers acting silly.
However in the wake of the death of George Floyd and others as a result of police brutality, the show will take a more serious turn for its new episodes.
Speaking on 'Late Night with Seth Meyers', Crews (who plays Lieutenant Terry Jeffords on the show) said: "We actually all got on a Zoom call just the other day, because of what's happening in this country and we were witnessing so many abuses of power.
"We had some sombre talks and some really, really eye-opening conversation about how to handle this new season."
Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Detective Rosa Diaz, donated $11,000 to the Community Justice Exchange earlier this month in support of the Black Lives Matter protests.
The sitcom's cast and showrunner Dan Goor then donated $100,000 to the National Bail Fund Network.
E4 is airing the current season of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'. You can watch seasons one to six on Netflix.
