We all love a bit of trashy telly, but we're not quite sure how we'd handle having it essentially on tap. Enter Discovery Networks, a fine bunch of folks who decided it was high time we found out, and decided to bring TLC to the UK and Ireland. Formerly known as 'The Learning Channel', TLC focuses primarily on reality-style series involving lifestyles, family life, and personal stories. Sounds great right? Yeah, but let's get to the point: This is the home of Honey Boo Boo.
Yep, TLC is the station that brings us TV gems like Toddlers and Tiaras, Sarah Palin's Alaska, Extreme Couponing, 19 Kids and Counting, Sister Wives, Long Island Medium, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding. Yes, it exists, and yes, we have watched it. Sure see for yourself there now.
Of course TLC UK will be altering their programming ever so slightly, so as to maximise appeal in the UK and Ireland. Discovery Networks have bought the rights to several series ahead of the big launch on April 30th, with the likes of the US Mistresses remake, Oprah's Lifeclass and Oprah's Next Chapter joining the ranks. Plus, there will even be some original programming, fronted by the likes of Holly Vallance, and Chris O'Dowd's missus, Dawn O'Porter.
And if you really want a feel for what the channel will be like, you need only look at the list of 'stars' who turned out for the big launch last night. From ITV's top daytime hosts to E4's Made In Chelsea cast, all the big names in tabloid telly were out in force. Sure where would we be without them, eh?
TLC launches on April 30th 2013, replacing Discovery Real Time.
