It's already set to be a highlight of this Christmas's TV schedule
You may not like to hear it, but Christmas is just under five months away.
And with every Christmas comes a lot of television watching and fighting over the remote control - but this is one you won't want to miss, especially if there are small people in your life.
The cast of Channel 4's forthcoming animated adaptation of much-loved children's book 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' has been announced, and there are some big names in the mix.
Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the voice of Daddy from Judith Kerr's story. First published in 1968, the short story is about a little girl called Sophie, whose tea is interrupted by a greedy tiger. It had previously been adapted for the stage, but never for the screen.
Meanwhile, Tamsin Greig will voice Mummy, while the Tiger will be voiced by David Oyelowo (Selma, Les Miserables). "I relished all of the growling, chomping and slurping, which called on me to find my inner cat," he said.
Comedian Paul Whitehouse will voice the Milkman, while newcomer Clara Ross will voice Sophie.
David Walliams, who knew author Kerr personally, will act as the narrator. "She was an incredible inspiration – her work is so brilliant. The book is a thing of beauty – there isn’t a word out of place, the illustrations are just gorgeous,” he said. “I really wanted to be a part of it and I was chuffed that she wanted me to narrate.
“I’m so proud to be associated with it because it’s a stone cold classic. Just like the book has been around for over 50 years, hopefully the animation will have this incredible longevity too.”
The half-hour animation will air on Channel 4 this Christmas, with an exact broadcast date and time TBC.
