But it was quite a tight final

Last night's 'Bake Off' final was essentially anyone's game. However, one of the fan favourites of the series ended up clinching the title.

While this series of the Channel 4 baking competition didn't exactly set our TV sets alight each week, it did provide some truly wholesome characters who charmed us more than ever. And thankfully, the 'Bake Off' final ended up crowning one of the most memorable of the 12 bakers.

The final three of the series was made up of Chigs, Giuseppe and Crystelle, all of whom had received a Paul Hollywood handshake, had won two Star Bakers, and two out of the three had won a technical challenge. So, it was pretty neck and neck, and the closest the competition has ever been.

Following a rather so-so affair with their carrot cake bakes, Crystelle levelled the playing field after her impressive work in this week's technical bake, which was something none of the bakers had ever seen or made before - a Belgian bun.

This meant that heading into the final Mad Hatter-inspired showstopper bake was anyone's game. It wasn't smooth sailing for any of them, however. Giuseppe's oven wasn't on right when he needed it; Chigs made a rookie mistake in not kissing Noel Fielding's Mr. Spatula; while Crystelle's focaccia bread ended up being a raw block of dough.

After last week's surprise casualty of Jürgen, the cheeriest man that ever did grace the 'Bake Off' tent, it was fitting that the other baker who received praise throughout the entire series, Giuseppe, be crowned this year's 'Bake Off' winner. And he was in utter shock.

Here's how viewers reacted to the new 'Bake Off' winner.
