The YouTube behemoth is becoming a TV series because of course, why not?
Unless you don't have children, or are around people with children, there is almost a definite chance you have never even heard of 'Baby Shark'.
If you happen to live in that world, of having no knowledge of 'Baby Shark' whatsoever, let's burst that tranquility for you. To say that 'Baby Shark' is a behemoth is an understatement. The video alone has 2.8 billion views on YouTube. Not million. Billion. 2.8 billion.
It is the ninth most-watched video in the platform's history, and sparked off a channel - Pinkfong! - that has 19 million subscribers as of writing. Last year, Pinkfong! (the apostrophe is important, apparently) launched a challenge to see if people could cover 'Baby Shark'. In total, nearly 700,000 cover songs were generated. Not only that, it spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
So, with all this success, it's only right that it now gets a TV series all of its own. THR reports that Nickolodeon are teaming up with Pinkfong! to create a show based on the song, which presumably will feature Baby Shark, Daddy Shark, Mommy Shark, Grandpa Shark and so on. Will it include Second-Cousin-Twice-Removed Shark? What about Uncle-But-Not-Actually-Uncle Shark?
There's no word on an air date, but given how quick and easy it is to churn these things out, expect to see this clogging up your TV any day now.
