'Hungry' had the pop star attached

The 'Modern Family' actor will lead the NBC series, which was originally due to film its pilot episode very soon.

Ariel Winter has stepped in to replace Demi Lovato on the NBC comedy series pilot for 'Hungry'.

The series originally surfaced in January 2021 with the 29-year-old attached as executive producer and star of the comedy. According to Deadline, however, Lovato was forced to step down from being the main star this past week due to a scheduling conflict.

'Hungry' leans into the self-help comedy category and follows a group of friends who are battling with food-related issues within their group that gathers each week.

They each attempt to help one another as they look for love, success and keep their food issues in check. The pilot is written and executive produced by Suzanne Martin, directed by James Burrows, both of whom worked on 'Frasier' and 'Will & Grace' together.

Per Deadline, Ariel Winter was drafted in as the replacement for Demi Lovato this past weekend, with the pilot's first table read expected to go ahead this Tuesday. Filming of the episode begins soon.

Winter is best known for starring as the often forgotten but incredibly smart middle child, Alex Dunphy, in all 11 seasons of the sitcom 'Modern Family'. She'll star as a character named Teddy in 'Hungry'.

Joining the cast will be Valerie Bertinelli ('One Day At A Time'), Anna Akana ('Jupiter's Legacy'), Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias ('Mr. Iglesias') and Ryan McPartlin ('Chuck').

Demi Lovato burst onto the screen following their appearance in Disney's TV movie 'Camp Rock'; they also appeared in 'Barney & Friends' as a child star in the early 2000s. They have since released seven studio albums and has been very vocal about their addictions and troubled past. Lovato is still on board the project as an executive producer.
