It's titled 'Genius: Aretha' and stars Cynthia Erivo as the Queen of Soul
The much anticipated Aretha Franklin biopic series finally has a trailer.
Academy award nominee Cynthia Erivo plays the titular role in 'Genius: Aretha'.
Franklin's many hit singles included "A Natural Woman", "Think", "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman", "Respect", and "Chain of Fools", the latter of which plays in the background of the trailer.
The series will be premiering on National Geographic next month. It highlights both Aretha's career as a singer and as a civil rights activist.
This isn't the only production based on the legendary musician that's been in the works.
Jennifer Hudson is set to play the Queen of Soul in the film 'Respect', due for release in August.
'Genius: Aretha' also stars Emmy winner Courtney B. Vance ('American Crime Story') as the singer's preacher father Rev. C.L. Franklin.
Erivo first made waves on Boradway, winning a Tony and Grammy award for her role in the revival of 'The Color Purple' from 2015 to 2017.
Her film roles include 'Bad Times at the El Royale' and 'Harriet'.
'Genius: Aretha' will premiere double-bill episodes over four consecutive nights. The eight-part series kicks off on Sunday, March 21.
It will be available on Hulu in the US the day after their TV debuts.
A release date for Ireland is yet to be unveiled but it's possible that Disney+ subscribers will get the series under the Nat Geo umbrella.
