Ah sure hasn't it been ages since we saw Anthony Head on TV? No, actually. He was in Dancing on The Edge over on the BBC there a few weeks ago, and he's been rather busy with the likes of Merlin since Buffy ended. He's also just signed up to play a pretty heavy handed ruler in The Selection, a new US TV drama that's being billed as The CW's answer to The Hunger Games.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain (the ladies behind shows like Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, and The Vampire Diaries) have put their heads together and come up with idea for a Hunger Games style story set 300 years in the future. Now stay with us, we know this will all sound very very very familiar. So, the story revolves around a young working class girl (played by Israeli actress Yael Grobglas) who is selected by lottery (JLaw, watch your back) to compete with a couple of other fine looking young wans for the Prince's hand in marriage.
Overseeing the whole competition is King Clarkson, and that's who Anthony will be playing, apparently. We're hoping he's a bit of a tyrant, because Anthony does evil quite well. Saying that, he'll always be good old Rupert Giles to us. Although Ripper GIles isn't totally forgotten either.... And as for the Prince in question? Well, he'll be played by a familiar face too. Michael Malarkey, who you may recognise as JoJo's aggro other half Anthony from Raw, will be the prince in question.
Much like The Hunger Games, The Selection is based on a book of the same name by Kiera Cass, which just so happened to be a New York Times best seller. The story was once billed as The Hunger Games meets The Bachelorette don'cha know. And there's a whole series of 'em to get through too.
We're actually kind of interested to see how this one turns out.
