As confirmed last November, the leading actors of season 3 of True Detective will be Academy award winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) and Carmen Ejogo (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). Now a third actor has been added to the cast.
Stephen Dorff, whose credits include Blade, The Power of One, Backbeat, Somewhere and Immortals, is the latest True Detective cast member. Starring most recently in Leatherface, it would seem that between True Detective and the Queen Latifah-starring Star, he is trying his hand at television too.
Dorff will play the partner of Ali’s character, Wayne Hays, a state police detective from northwest Arkansas. Dorff’s character Roland West works with Hays to crack a baffling crime that has haunted Hays’ life and career for thirty years.
No premiere date has been confirmed yet but we know that Ejogo plays an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children and that the series involves a “macabre crime… and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”
While the first season of True Detective, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, got huge critical acclaim, the reception for season 2, starring Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn as well as Rachel McAdams, was far more mixed.
Here’s hoping that showrunner and writer Nic Pizzolato (who will also make his directorial debut with the new seaon) has things back on track for the show’s third outing, or else HBO could be done with it.
