Murder, She Wrote fans and Angela Lansbury lovers rejoice, the great dame herself is returning to television for a role in an upcoming BBC adaptation of Little Women.
91-year-old Lansbury (yes NINETY-ONE) will star alongside Emily Watson, Michael Gambon (Churchill’s Secret) and Jonah Hauer-King (Howards End) in the three-part series based on Louisa May Alcott iconic 1868 novel.
Lansbury will play the wealthy and cantankerous aunt March, while Watson is the family's matriarch Marmee. The four sisters will be played by Maya Thurman-Hawke (guess who's daughter she is?), Willa Fitzgerald (Scream: The TV Series), Annes Elwy (Electric Dreams), and Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies).
The BBC is making the series alongside PBS Masterpiece in America, while Heidi Thomas (Call The Midwife) has adapted it for TV and Vanessa Caswill (My Mad Fat Diary) will direct.
Best part? It will be filmed in Ireland and shooting gets underway this month.
Let Angela Lansbury watch begin! Although she does live in Cork most of the time, so Angela is well used to our fair shores.
