American Crime Story: The People v OJ Simpson was already enough of a ratings success for season 2 to go into production, but it seems its recent Emmy success has prompted FX to greenlight a third season of the anthology series.
The limited series picked up 13 Emmy wins last month, including a directing Emmy for Ryan Murphy who is expected to direct the opening episode of the Hurricane Katrina themed season 2.
Season 3 of the anthology series will focus on the assassination of legendary designer Gianni Versace and the subsequent suicide of his killer, Andrew Cunanan. The story will be largely based on Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth's book 'Vulgar Favor'.
Season 2 and 3 are set to film concurrently from early 2017 with season 2 expected to air in late 2017 while season 3 should follow at some point in 2018.
