The Irish actor returns to our screens

ITV has branded their new five-part series as a "gripping, nail-biting thriller".

Aidan Turner will have us all on the edges of our seats in 'The Suspect', an upcoming thriller commissioned by ITV.

The series will be an adaptation of Michael Robotham's debut novel 'Suspect', and will be produced by the same team behind 'Line of Duty' and 'The Pembrokeshire Murders'.

Turner, who is well-known for his role in the period drama 'Poldark', will play the role of doctor Joe O’Loughlin, who is a successful psychologist with a high media profile, a publishing deal, and a happy family; the picture-perfect life, it would seem.

However, when a young woman is found in a shallow grave in a West London cemetery, two police officers seek Joe's opinion on the case. But as the investigation intensifies, we are asked do we know the real Joe, or does he have a secret life?

Aidan Turner commented on his involvement in 'The Suspect': "I am thrilled to be taking on the complex and demanding role of Joseph O’Loughlin, a man with so much to give but so much to lose, and a hidden darker side."

Joining the Irish actor in the series will be Sian Clifford from 'Fleabag', Shaun Parkes from 'Small Axe', Camilla Beeput from 'Peep Show', Adam James from 'Vigil' and Anjli Mohindra who also starred in 'Vigil'. The series will be filmed on location in London this autumn with a release date of 2022 set.

Since becoming the break-out star of 'Poldark', of which he won numerous awards for, Turner has appeared in 'The Hobbit' trilogy as Kíli, the love interest of Evangeline Lilly's character Tauriel. He also starred as the prolific Leonardo da Vinci in Amazon Prime's 'Leonardo' series.

It was reported earlier this year that Turner married his American actor girlfriend Caitlin Fitzgerald in Italy.
