Adam Sandler has been taking more shit than Woody Harrelson in White Men Can't Jump, lately. The critical world was rarely his pal, but now audiences have stopped turning up in the huge amounts they did previously for his broad comedies.
The actor and filmmaker knows his audience and knew they were still there - just maybe too lazy/broke to go to the cinema. With this in mind he signed a multiple film deal with Netflix and has now reportedly broken records with his first film for the streaming service - The Ridiculous Six.
Netflix Ted Sarandos spewed that the film had the most-watched first 30 days than any other title in Netflix history. Obviously something like House of Cards has multiple episodes, while Beasts of No Nation had around 3 million streams its first couple of weeks. Being that Netflix is available in 190 odd countries worldwide, that has to be a mammoth number and is sure to prick the interest of other big name stars.
This is a big win for Sandler; it shows his audience is very much still there, but that the demo just wasn't going to the cinema as much.
That said, as much as we like Sandler (he is a reeeeally nice dude), Ridiculous Six is his worst film yet. We wanna see more Happy Gilmore/Wedding Singer flicks from The Sandman.
