It's a great day for TV adaptations of comic books.
As we reported earlier, Judge Dredd is getting his own live action TV series in the near future. Now comes the news that FXX have ordered an animated series of Deadpool, to be written and executive produced by Donald Glover.
Glover is expected to write, executive produce and showrun the series alongside his brother Stephen who's previously worked on Donald's FX series Atlanta as a writer.
“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit “Atlanta,”” said Nick Grad, president of original programming at parent network FX, in a statement.
Marvel television will also be involved with the production of the series.
“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX — the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth!” said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television. “We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”
Glover has got a heck of a lot of work on his plate these days. Whether or not he's completed his filming on the Han Solo spin off movie is unknown but in addition to this Deadpool series he's also got a second season of Atlanta to work on. There's also the small matter of lending his vocals to Simba in the live action remake of The Lion King.
