The eighties was a wash with superhero cartoons but none quite as cool as SuperTed. Come on like, the little guy had been left abandoned in the factory to never go to any use but THEN was rescued by Spotty Man who sprinkled magical dust on him and he was given magical powers by Mother eh... Naa...ture. Hmmm. Yeah, actually dodgy enough back story there but who cares because he's coming back!
The cartoon is set to be given a modern makeover and will be back on our tellies more than thirty years after he first appeared. SuperTed creator Mike Young will be reviving the show for 26 half-hour episode and it's expected it will be on telly again at some point over the next two years.
Young told RadioTimes; “In SuperTed, we had a gun-slinging cowboy, a flamboyantly gay skeleton, and a fat guy who had jokes made about his weight. And all these things you just wouldn’t do today. But you can still write the show in a funny, entertaining way.”
"We have got to be careful. So often things they re-make come out very slick. I won’t mention any names but many of the stop-frame series have been remade in the UK with less than fantastic results. They sometimes lose the charm of the original production. That’s what we have …got to watch out for, to maintain what the original shows had and that’s easier said than done.”
The show will be joining a whole host of old cartoons that are making a come back including Danger Mouse, The Powerpuff Girls and Thunderbirds.
Will be just like the good old days so, we can still get up at the crack of dawn to watch them too right, that's still cool... yeah?
