It's coming into autumn now and thankfully this means there is a rake load of great TV shows to get stuck into, however, the one that has everyone talking at the moment is HBO's The Night Of, the series is now available on Sky Box Sets.
It follows in the same ilk as the likes of The Jinx and Making a Murderer, although The Night Of is a fictitious story. The eight-part series sees young student Nasir Khan (Riz Ahmed) accused of the murder of a young girl he meets on a night out, and he finds himself up to his neck in evidence that proves as much, but did he really do it?
The story will have you gripped from start to finish, and just in case we haven't given you reason enough to watch already, here's five more;
1. Riz Ahmed
The Night Of stars up and coming talent Riz Ahmed as Nasir Khan, an actor you may have previously seen alongside opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in 2014's Nightcrawler. You'll also soon see him in the next Star Wars film Rogue One, as well as Jason Bourne. The English actor steals every scene he is in as you watch his character unfold over the eight episodes. His face will be in your head long after the credits roll in the final episode.
2. Armchair detective time again
If there is anything television and pop culture have taught us over the last few years, it's that we're all mad for a bit of armchair detective work. The likes of Serial and Making a Murderer have brought out the inner sleuths in all of us, and The Night Of is no different. You'll think you have the case cracked one moment, and then watch the whole thing torn open again the next.
3. John Turturro
You'd most likely have seen John Turturro in a Coen Brothers movie over the years, with the actor starring in the likes of The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou? as well as working frequently with Adam Sandler and Spike Lee. Turturro plays ambulance-chaser attorney Jack Stone, who is given the task of defending Nasir, and similar to Ahmed, could find himself doing quite well come awards season. He manages to instantly evoke sympathy from the viewer, but he's also a likable character with a dry wit that is much needed when things get too dark. Interestingly, the character was meant to played by James Gandolfini and was a real passion project for The Sopranos star. Turturro, who was a good friend of the actor then stepped into the role after his death, but Gandolfini is still credited as an executive producer.
4. Critics love it, the viewer loves it
The Night Of premiered on HBO in July, so we already know what the folk across the pond think, and by all accounts, it's one of the best shows of 2016. Rotten Tomatoes have given is an impressive 95%, so at least you know that there has to be a somewhat satisfactory ending to it all.
5. It's only eight episodes
These days, we all have a mile-long list of TV shows that people have recommended you to watch, and if you're a few seasons behind, this can seem like a mammoth task. The Night Of is a stand alone eight-episode series that you could fly through on a rainy weekend as the whole season is available exclusively on Sky Box Sets for you to devour in one sitting. If you want to enjoy it week by week, you can catch up on the first few episodes and watch it on Thursday's on Sky Atlantic at 9pm.
