Disney's FX are in talks with author James Clavell's estate

It may have been billed as a limited series but the huge success of 'Shōgun' means there are likely another two seasons on the way.

Disney-owned network FX is in talks with the estate of 'Shōgun' author James Clavell about extending the show. The network has said that two seasons are currently in development with a writers room being assembled over the summer to discuss how to extend the show beyond Clavel's popular 1975 novel.

'Shōgun' star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada is involved and will reportedly return to the series if the show is given the green light.

'Shōgun' ranks as the most expensive scripted series FX has ever made and was years in development. It is fair to say the effort and budget paid off with the show becoming one of the network's most-watched ever.

All 10 episodes of season one of 'Shōgun' are available to watch on Disney+.
