Former One Direction star Zayn Malik and model Gigi Hadid have split up.

The young pair, who were together for more than two years, confirmed their break-up on social media, with the 25-year-old Malik posting a short message calling their relationship 'incredibly meaningful, loving and fun'.

Shortly afterwards, Hadid (22) posted her own statement saying that she was 'incredibly grateful for the love, time and life lessons that Z and I shared'.

Malik, of course, was once engaged to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards before dating Hadid. The model also appeared in his first solo video for 'Pillowtalk'.

It's a bad week overall for love's young dream, with reports that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have also called it quits.
