If you've got yourself a Samsung Smart TV with Voice Recognition software, there's a good chance someone's been listening in on you.
It's been revealed that Samsung's privacy policy includes a section that states, "if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party through the use of Voice Recognition."
In other words, if the mic is live on your Samsung Smart TV, someone could potentially be listening into your conversation about The Voice UK or that episode of The Good Wife.
Samsung have since issued a statement, rejecting cries of personal invasion and 1984-style recording methods. "If a consumer consents and uses the voice recognition feature, voice data is provided to a third party during a requested voice command search. At that time, the voice data is sent to a server, which searches for the requested content then returns the desired content to the TV."
Furthermore, Samsung have stated that if the microphone icon is present on the TV screen, customers are then fully aware that the mic is live and is being recorded.
"Samsung takes consumer privacy very seriously. In all of our Smart TVs we employ industry-standard security safeguards and practices, including data encryption, to secure consumers’ personal information and prevent unauthorized collection or use."
So there you have it. Time to burn all electronic devices and go live in the woods.
