So, the X Factor contestants took on the songs previously made famous by The Beatles. I have to say that I wasn't overly impressed at all. Elton John week was much better, however, four things happened this weekend that delighted me somewhat. First off, Rebecca actually moved, walked and sang at the same time; scandal came in the form of Cheryl questioning Wagner on his comments to a journalist; Katie attempted to show the real her by changing her image so she now resembles a young boy come Paris Hilton's Dog (I'm sorry is that a little harsh? You have to agree there is a resemblance) and poor Paije Richardson left the show.
First things first, let's look at Saturday night. Mary Byrne certainly got her fighting spirit back and was like a little tiger on stage. She looked great, sounded great and she herself said she "felt great" (AKA "fabalas"). Every week she is doing the nation proud. Who cares if we're getting a bailout that could possibly leave us in debt to Europe for the foreseeable future.... Mary is putting a smile on all our faces. Mary for Taoiseach *begins chanting and stomping around desk*. Her fellow over 28, Wagner, tried his best to take on three songs by Sir Paul and his mates (these included Get Back/ Hippy Hippy Shake and Hey Jude) and it came across that he was singing in another language and failed to keep up with the backing track. Mind you, his "JuJu Ju JJJJ Judayy" sounded alright. Still, 'tis now becoming a joke that he stayed in, especially with that performance. And let's not forget Cheryl's beef with him. In case you missed it, Cheryl confronted him about an article which was in one of the tabloids over the weekend claiming Wagner said she was a girl from a council estate who got lucky, I think he also claimed she was a chav? (it was either him or her designer friend Julien MacDonald that shouted it while at a party). The Geordie stated; "Yes I'm vurry prood of me roots and I'm vurry vurry lucky but if aye was to give you any constructive advice it wood bee to don't focus on evrybudy else or how looky aye am, but how looky you are to be on that stage t'night." Meow and the look of anger in her eyes, like a woman scorned, she's still hurting over Treyc getting the boot. Wagner's response, pretty pre-composed if I'm honest, he told her not to believe what the press say and that it was taken out of context. Now, Katie's hair. WTF??? Seriously? It's awful, that blonde knot was much better. A hair cut is not going to make people like her, public opinion is not going to change, it's not going to keep her in any longer, that's Simon's job.
On to the others, Matt teased us all by only wearing a vest, maybe next week he'll be topless *swoons*, Paije nailed Let It Be and Cher was wonderful, even if she was on half a winding stairs. One Direction, in my opinion, weren't all that great. Normally the boys are spot on each week but on Saturday, I just wasn't feeling it.
Let's not dwell too much on Sunday. Paije and Cher should not have been in the bottom two. Little Louis had a tough decision to make but in the interest of looking for a winner for the show, Cher is in with a better chance so he made the right choice. Should he have sent it to deadlock, I think Cher would have gone but I'm glad she didn't. Everyone will miss Paije, but he wasn't going to make the final anyway. In saying that, perhaps it was just a little to early to say goodbye to him.
