According to The Irish Sun, Kate Middleton and Prince William could be set to visit our emerald isle as soon as next year, royal baby in tow and all. Apparently, 'careful arrangements' were going through the processes of being made until Kate became pregnant last year, and an initial trip planned for 2013 has been pushed back to 2014.
Touting William's role as a search and rescue pilot in the Irish Sea as the central reason to visit is the most tenuous link you could possibly make to justify the trip, when we all know for a fact that people will probably go apesh*t once again at the idea of British monarchs on Irish soil, what with the pair also being the most famous couple in the world as well as containing the second (and yet to be born third) heir to the British throne. Per The Sun's 'insider', 'The fact that Prince William is based in Anglesey gives a good hook for the visit. There is a lot of co-operation between Britain and Ireland in that area. Very tentative steps were taken before the Duchess of Cambridge became pregnant, but obviously because of the baby that had to be put on hold.'
The Sun also mentioned that the move was put in play by Eamon Gilmore, saying 'it was a 'priority' to deepen ties with Britain via events such as a visit by the couple.', and that it was good old Enda who informally invited them to visit Ireland last year at an official event in Buckingham Palace. We should have sent Michael D. Far more cute and diddley idle.
