The earthquake in Nepal has already claimed thousands of lives, and as rescue efforts continue to save as many as possible, those who have survived have begun to share footage of the terrifying moments as the disaster unfolded.

This video was captured after the 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck, and caused an avalanche at Mount Everest, where teams of climbers were preparing to tackle the world's most famous mountain.

It's clear that not many people understand what's happening until the wall of snow has come incredibly close, at which point they started to run "to save our lives", as Jost Kobusch, who uploaded the video, stated.

The death toll as a result of this avalanche has been reported as being 17, while another 61 were injured.Â
