We think it's safe to say that Rory McIlroy is having a strange 24 hours.
First he won the British Open, which made everyone happy and all was well. But then this happened.
Now the internet went just a bit mad, but turns out that Rory was just following the rules of the Open, which asks players to not sign autographs until they sign their scorecard at the end of their round. Or at least that's what pro golfer Ian Poulter says.
Just to clear up the signature thing. We are asked not to sign autographs until we have officially handed in our scorecards. #RulesAreRules

So out of the fire and into the frying pan went Rory, as he decided to bring up his supporting of Manchester United during his winning speech. In Liverpool. Not the smartest choice.
We're 90% certain that Rory isn't spending today crying into his millions over the whole thing though. And he did wake up to this tweet and invitation so, all in all, the world according to McIlroy is probably pretty sweet today.
Congrats @McIlroyRory on your 2014 British Open title. See you for another
round next time I'm in Ireland.
