John Wall of the Washington Wizards found it difficult to fight back tears after the death of a young fan named Miyah, who had been battling cancer.

John Wall took to the court last night in a game against the Boston Celtics with the name of Miyah Telemaque-Nelson, a 6-year-old girl who he met as a result of her battle with cancer, written on his shoes.

The gesture was a tribute to Miyah, who passed away earlier in the week, and had clearly touched Wall's heart. The two became close as a result of their interaction throughout the course of her treatment, and he regularly visited her and her family, and even started a social media campaign to get her favourite musician, Nicki Minaj, to meet up with her too.

In an emotional post-game interview, Wall found it impossible to hold back the tears as he discussed his relationship with Miyah, and how much their time together had meant to him.

He dedicated the win to her, and said "this game was really meant for her. It would've been an even tougher day to lose it, I just went into a mode where I didn't want to lose this game". He also tweeted out a touching tribute to her later on that evening.
