Johnny Depp sparked controversy yesterday when he was discussing US President Donald Trump at Glastonbury.
Depp is a 'Guest of Honour' at the festival this year, presenting a series of films including Withnail and I, The Libertine and Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man at the Cineramageddon area.
As part of his appearance, Depp has been having conversations with the area's curator, Julien Temple. During yesterday's discussion, the conversation turned to US President. Donald Trump, which is when Depp provoked in a reaction when he queried when was the last time a US President had been assassinated by an actor.
"When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?" Depp asked. The question drew both loud cheers and boos from those in attendance.
"I want to clarify: I'm not an actor. I lie for a living," he continued.
Depp's comment of course was in reference to Abraham Lincoln who was assassinated by the actor, John Wilkes Booth.
The US Secret Service has since released the following statement about Depp's comments:
"We actively monitor open source reporting, including social media networks, and we evaluate potential threats. For security reasons, we cannot discuss specifically nor in general terms the means and methods of how we perform our protective responsibilities."
