Jake "The Snake" Beckmann is a 19-year-old MMA fan who has dreamed of stepping into the octagon for a fight, and over the weekend that dream came true against a UFC veteran.

Nate Quarry hasn't been in the UFC since he retired in 2010, but he accepted the challenge of one fan to lace up the gloves one more time at the 'Rumble at the Roseland' event, as he took on Jake "The Snake" Beckmann this past Saturday.

Beckmann is a huge MMA fan with Down Syndrome who has been training for the last four years, and was pressing his coach Greg Walker to get him a fight. Not sure what to do, Walker put the message out there on Facebook, and a few days later Quarry got in touch.

Beckmann won the match by a second round submission, and claimed the UFC heavyweight title as a result, a replica which was purchased via a GoFundMe page.

The event itself also raised over $1,000 for Create the Connection, an organisation that looks to empower those with special needs and give them the opportunity to get meaningful employment. Speaking about the fight, Quarry said "If I can affect the entire community and let everyone know that special needs people are just a little different. They're just that: they're a little different. They have dreams. They have goals, just like the rest of us. Why should we try to tell them how they should live their lives? If we can break them out of the box I think that's the right thing to do".
