The Dubliner's opponent Mike King tested positive for a banned substance after the fight, meaning his share of the post fight bonus has been awarded to Pendred - and he's found something very worthwhile to do with the extra cash.
Cathal Pendred's come from behind victory at last month's UFC Fight Night in Dublin's O2 was one of the most memorable moments in a night filled to the brim with drama. After enduring a torrid first round, Pendred battled back in the second round to submit his American foe with a rear naked choke to the rapturous response of the 9,500 in attendance.
So impressive was the battle that the UFC immediately awarded Pendred and King a post fight bonus of $50,000 each on top of their contracted pay - a move which Pendred admitted in the post fight press conference had changed his life.
That wasn't to be the end of it, though. Last night it emerged that Pendred's opponent Mike King had tested positive for the steroid nandrolone after the bout, leading to the UFC cancelling his bonus and cancelling his contract with the fight promotion.
Pendred said on Twitter: "I have zero tolerance for PEDs [performance enhancing drugs] in sport. However, I know Mike King well from the 6 weeks on [The Ultimate Fighter] & he is a good guy. I wish him well."
But the story didn't end there for Pendred. He was contacted by the UFC today who informed him that King's share of the bonus would be winging its way over from Las Vegas directly into Pendred's bank account and the Dubliner has pledged to donate a sum of it to the fantastic cause of Temple Street Children's Hospital.
Cathal Pendred will be back in the UFC Octagon in Sweden on October 4th when he takes on Russian fighter Gasan Umalato and who's to say he won't be padding his bank account even further...
Thank you @danawhite @lorenzofertitta & J.Silva for rewardeding me for being PED free. I will donate a sum to Temple St. children's hospital
